Branko Deljanin is President at CGL Canadian Gemlab in Vancouver. He is a research gemologist with extensive experience in advanced testing of diamonds and gemstones to determine origin of color. Title: Introduction to Gem Analysis of the Big 3: Emerald, Ruby and Sapphire

Presenter: Dr Lore Kiefert – FGA

 ½ day workshop on the use of standard instruments for the identification of natural vs. synthetic gems, as well as treatment detection. The workshop will concentrate on differences between natural, hydrothermal synthetic and flux-grown synthetic emeralds, the detection of oil or resin treatments in emerald, various synthetic corundum vs natural corundum, detection of oil treatment, heat treatment, lead glass filling, diffusion in corundum. Some clues on the association of a specific treatment and certain origins are given.

Dr Lore Kiefert joined In 1994 the SSEF Swiss Gemmological Institute where she became Director of the Coloured Stones Department. In 2005, Dr. Kiefert moved to New York to head the AGTA Gemmological Testing Center and returned to Europe to join the Gubelin Gem Lab as Chief Gemmologist in 2009. In 2020, she opened her own consulting company.
